Spring term 2
Reading
Firstly this half term, we are reading “Planet Omar- Accidental Trouble Magnet” by Zanib Mian and children will learn to extract information, make notes and use quotations.
After that we will read “An Interview With A Tiger: And Other Clawed Beasts Too” by Andy Seed and Nick East. Children will use this text to practise using vocabulary from the text to support their responses and explanations.
To help your child at home, please continue to encourage them to read daily and record their progress in their planners for the teachers to see.
Writing
Throughout writing learning journeys, children will acquire new grammar skills, practise their application, and develop extended pieces of writing.
The first piece of writing that children will compose this half term in a humorous narrative which has a problem and a resolution. In this piece, children will apply knowledge of paragraphs and cohesion as well as inverted commas for speech.
After that, children will compose an interview which will give the reader information about a creature they have created. Children will use phrases and clauses to engage their reader.
Maths
During this half term, learning will complete our learning of division and begin learning about fractions, identifying and finding unit and non-unit fractions, as well as calculating fractions of amounts. After that, we will learn about lines and angles, learning the number of degrees in a quarter, half and three-quarter turn and learning to use a protractor to measure angles.
Science
During this half term, children will complete a physics unit on light. They will learn about the light from the sun and the need to protect our eyes from it. They will learn about reflections and shadows.
History
This half term children will start learning about the Romans, finding out about life in Roman times and how they have influenced our life in the 21st century.
Geography
In Geography, the children are weighing up the pros and cons of renewable and non-renewable energy, where this energy or mineral comes from. The children will also investigate the affects using these has on our planet and how we can use energy responsibly.
Languages
In Spanish this half-term, the children will continue learning colours in Spanish and will use this knowledge to describe colours and features of faces ‘My eyes are green…’ and ‘Her lips are red.”
Computing
In Computing the children are learning to copy and paste text and images. They are also learning about screen time and the damaging effects too much time on screens can have.
RSHE
The children are learning about rights and respect in RSHE this half term.
RE
In RE this half-term, they children will learn about the Christian Easter story. They will consider the changing emotions throughout the story and reflect on changing emotions in their own lives.
PE
This half-term, we will continue work on our cognitive cog as we complete the Real PE unit. This cog teaches the children ways to identify how a performance can be improved. The children will also be learning how to play netball.
